If you are anything like me then finding cozy apartment Christmas decor is almost (if not definitely) more exciting than the actual holiday. I love creating a cozy and festive mood in my apartment for winter and Christmas. It really is the best feeling when you wake up with snow on the ground, a hot cup of joe, and are surrounded by all of your beautiful cozy Christmas apartment decors.
When living in an apartment, you have to be a little more creative with your decor because you have less space to work with. Below I have created a list of cute and clever cozy apartment Christmas decor ideas that will work in any sized space!
Having some plaid is a must for the holiday season! Incorporating plaid into your living room with a throw blanket is a great way to add in a holiday pattern without going overboard. Also, blankets are a functional item so that’s even better! I love finding plaid blankets from Target, HomeGoods, and Ikea because they are super affordable.
Using winter greenery like cedar and eucalyptus to decorate your entryway or your mantel for the holiday is a simple and effective way to lean into the season without spending too much money or having to worry about where you will store your decor when the season is over. These winter arrangements really add some color and life to your apartment! Trader Joe’s is my go-to spot for winter greenery. However, if you are looking for some faux greenery then Amazon has some great options!
When decorating your apartment for the holiday season you will find tons of modern holiday decor. However, I find that using more traditional holiday fabrics, garlands, candle sticks, etc. makes your space feel so much cozier. Additionally when you avoid the trendy modern stuff and go with a more traditional look then your decor is less likely to go out of style every season. I love red or green gingham, simple string lights, and a real orange or hardy evergreen garland for Christmas decor.
Decorative candles with yummy winter scents are the easiest way to make your apartment feel festive and cozy. Literally go crazy with the candle sticks and actually light them when you have guests over during the holiday season! There is really nothing that can make a place feel homey than some natural flickering light from a candle.
Decorating your bar cart for the holiday is an amazing way to bring some holiday cheer into your apartment. Bar carts are fun because you can have festive-themed alcohol, glassware, napkins, wine toppers, and more. The list goes on because there is really so much that you can do with it!
Your decor does not need to be over the top to make your home cozy. I find that the little holiday decor touches are what I love the most in an apartment. Adding some cute ornaments and a mini garland to your entryway coat hanger or other little spaces in your apartment is such a cute idea to make a small space festive with little effort!
Living in an apartment means getting a little more creative with your holiday decor because you have less space to work with. I would never think to add a wreath to my kitchen window, but this is super cute! Hanging the ornaments on your kitchen cabinet knobs is also such a unique way to add some holiday decor to your apartment!
I am officially obsessed with mini Christmas trees and will absolutely be adding one to my apartment this Christmas!
Living in an apartment means less space and less storage so having a full-sized Christmas tree is not always ideal. Instead, opt for a small Christmas tree that will take up less space but is just as cute! This Christmas tree works so well because it is propped up on a pedestal or tall side table and paired with a beautiful fabric that emphasizes the tree’s Christmas colors.
While I do love a traditional Christmas tree look, this modern and simple Christmas tree is fabulous and perfect for an apartment because it is easy to put together and does not take up too much space. Decorating some winter greenery with some simple bulbs and an amber vase is a genius idea for a Christmas tree replacement! This works because the amber and brown tones with the greenery still feel vary warm and inviting despite being a modern approach to a Christmas tree.
If you are like me, then your apartment sadly does not come with a fireplace and mantel. However, this does not mean you should skip out on having Christmas stockings! Hanging Christmas stockings on your media console, a shelving unit, or even just on your wall is a great decoration idea for an apartment. Sometimes you just have to get a little creative!
Thrifted holiday decor and decorative warm lighting will make your apartment feel super cozy. You really do not need a whole lot or to spend a lot of money to make your space inviting and festive for the holidays. I love this star-shaped light that will add a nice glow to your home and the red vintage chair that brings in some holiday color and pattern. You can achieve a similar look with some red patterned throw pillows and a hanging light of your own!
Adding little touches of holiday decor to areas that are already decorated like bookshelves will make your decor fit in seamlessly. If you collect little holiday knick-knacks through thrifting or while you are traveling and add them to you shelves during the holiday season I guarantee you will love them for longer.
Using a vintage Christmas book and vinyl for Christmas decoration adds so much character to your space! It is a great way to add some art and a pop of green and red holiday colors without spending too much money.
When holiday decorating, you do not have to stick with the typical colors of the holiday! If your home has a lot of orange accents like in the picture above then add in some mini orange Christmas trees! It is unique to create your own color scheme for the holiday. Who cares? It is just home decor 🙂
I don’t want to sound like a party pooper but I don’t really think going balls to the wall with bright Christmas decor for your balcony is worth it! Chances are your balcony is not massive so adding decor that won’t take up too much space and you won’t get sick of is the way to go. Using winter plants like pines and evergreens in tandem with holiday-themed accents like a red bow or some string lights will add just the right amount of merry holiday decor to your balcony.
I am not really a fan of colored lights or inflatable Christmas figurines when decorating a balcony or outside of any home in general. It is a little tacky if you ask me hehe. However, I do think that white string lights and a few hanging lights look so beautiful on your balcony! It is a simple way for you to add some holiday cheer without the eyesore!
Even if your apartment is a small space, you can always find space for some holiday decor! Bring some of these holiday decorating ideas into your home to create the cozy festive space that will make this winter bearable.
